Unley
EPA assessment
In May 2017, the EPA commenced environmental investigations in an assessment area bounded by Charles Lane, Little Charles Street, Mary Street and Tyne Place in Unley.
The EPA assessment comprised 3 stages, continuing through to June 2019 and was undertaken to ensure that the legacy of past industrial practices does not pose a risk to residents living there today.
After 3 stages of work, the EPA identified that that groundwater contains chlorinated hydrocarbons above drinking water guidelines at a site on Unley Road and a minor exceedance of the drinking water guideline was also identified in groundwater from one of the eleven wells within the broader EPA assessment area.
As advised in the last community update from the EPA (24 September 2019), residents may use their bore water – provided they test their bore regularly and it has been deemed safe for its intended use.
The soil vapour assessment results indicated that there was unlikely to be a vapour intrusion risk to residents living in the assessment area.
The EPA has concluded its environmental assessment in Unley and no further work is planned.
