Melrose Park
The EPA commenced environmental assessment work in Melrose Park in March 2021.
In February 2021 the EPA was notified by the Department for Infrastructure and Transport of groundwater contamination in the area, which was discovered during routine investigations for the upgrade of Main South Road.
Contamination is from chlorinated hydrocarbons including trichloroethene (TCE) at high levels, exceeding drinking water criteria. TCE is a volatile chemical that can be transported in groundwater and also as vapour in the air spaces between soil particles.
The EPA has advised residents in this area not to use groundwater (bore water) for any purpose.
More work will be undertaken in June 2024.
