Athol Park
Last updated June 2025
The EPA started an environmental assessment in Athol Park in early 2025.
Information collected as part of the EPA’s nearby Woodville North Stage 6 assessment identified trichloroethene (TCE) in the groundwater in a part of Athol Park.
The Athol Park assessment is being undertaken to understand if there is a risk that contaminated groundwater is impacting nearby residential properties.
Further stages of work may be needed to determine whether a groundwater prohibition area should be established. Information collected will also help to determine whether vapour assessment is required.

Please do not use groundwater (bore water)
Groundwater is water that is present underground within rocks or sediments and can be accessed by a bore with an outdoor pump. Most properties do not have access to groundwater.
Groundwater in this area is contaminated and should not be used for any purpose.
Rainwater and mains water (tap water provided by SA Water) are not affected by the groundwater contamination and can be used. Home-grown fruit and vegetables are safe to consume, provided they are not watered with groundwater.
