Radiation
The EPA protects the environment and health and safety of people from risks associated with ionising and non-ionising radiation. We regulate the use of ionising radiation in medical, research, industrial and mining organisations including use of X-rays, and the safe use, transport, storage and disposal of radioactive substances.
The Australian Radiation Safety and Nuclear Safety Agency ARPANSA is the Commonwealth authority on non-ionising radiation. ARPANSA provides information relating to non-ionising radiation safety including lasers, microwaves, powerlines, mobile phones and communication towers. You can also speak with an ARPANSA scientist.
