Air quality monitoring stations
What is in the box?
The Environment Protection Authority (EPA) has air quality monitoring stations across South Australia − in metropolitan Adelaide as well as regional centres.
The monitoring stations operate 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
The EPA monitors and regulates South Australia’s air quality, focusing on the control of emissions that contribute to pollution. We use the information to develop programs to improve our air quality.
The pollutants which are continuously monitored are:
- particulate matter (PM10 & PM2.5)
- ozone (O3)
- nitrogen dioxide (NO2)
- sulfur dioxide (SO2)
- carbon monoxide (CO).
Each station monitors some or all of these pollutants.
The stations are in open areas, to ensure that samples are collected from all directions, without obstruction. This provides a broad understanding of potential pollution sources
