An environmental consultant has been engaged by Caltex to investigate the impacts of hydrocarbons (petroleum products) on groundwater at and near the site of a former service station on the corner of Philip Highway and Manston Street, Elizabeth South.
The EPA has reviewed the findings of the investigation and is satisfied that there is currently no risk to human health posed by contamination from the site.
Caltex has written to residents in the vicinity to update them on the results of the investigation and advise that the consultant will also supervise the decommissioning and removal of underground infrastructure such as tanks and pipes.
An environmental audit is still to be conducted and the EPA will continue to work with Caltex to review work undertaken. Environmental auditors are accredited by the EPA.
