Hale River Feedlot - Spring Gully
Hale River Transfer Facility PTY LTD (Hale River) has been granted an EPA licence (#51599) to operate a cattle feedlot with a maximum capacity of 1,394 standard cattle units (SCU) at a site in Spring Gully, southwest of Clare.
Hale River has been operating a cattle feedlot at the site for several years, but below the EPA’s licensing threshold of an average of 500 cattle per day over any period of 12 months.
The EPA received a licence application from Hale River in January 2022 for a cattle feedlot proposed to operate at a maximum capacity of 1,402 SCU.
The EPA undertook a rigorous assessment of the licence application, with technical experts in wastewater, air quality, and noise evaluating all aspects and potential impacts of the proposal. The EPA has also carefully considered submissions that were made in response to the licence application.
Hale River's operation of the feedlot will be subject to a range of licence conditions, which the EPA will enforce in order to minimise and prevent environmental harm.
