NPI Legislation
The legislative framework underpinning the NPI is the National Environment Protection (National Pollutant Inventory) Measure (NPI NEPM). A copy of the NPI NEPM is available from the Environment Protection and Heritage Council (EPHC) website.
The state legislation, the Environment Protection (National Pollutant Inventory) Policy has been updated to include mandatory provisions. Penalties can now be applied in South Australia if a NPI report is not submitted, submitted late or does not contain the required information.
In SA, records used to calculate NPI data are required to be kept for a period of 5 years commencing on the last day of the reporting year to which the record relates.
