Lonsdale and Hallett Cove
On 7 December 2018, the EPA wrote to residents in portions of Hallett Cove and the Lonsdale industrial precinct to advise that it was commencing a dust study in the area to look at possible sources impacting on the community. We invited residents to contact us and to be involved in a collaborative study to determine the location of dust monitors to be placed in the community.
Between December and May 2019, the EPA obtained qualitative data from residents and procured four multi-channel particulate monitors from the US for this project.
The aim of the dust study is to analyse the size of the particles and meteorological conditions to identify potential sources of dust being experienced by the community. At present, regulatory and compliance staff have witnessed multiple sources of dust.
The workshop’s primary goal is to seek community input into the placement and hosting of three dust monitors, with a fourth being placed south of the Lonsdale precinct as a control site.
On 19 June 2019 the EPA held its first community workshop and is now investigating the suitability of the proposed locations made by the group’s participants. Please click on ‘community updates’ below to view the presentation and see the project timeline.
