Dry Creek salt fields
The Dry Creek salt fields – formerly Ridley – extend 30 km from Dry Creek on the northern outskirts of Adelaide to Middle Beach. The site is now owned by Buckland Dry Creek Pty Ltd. While the major operations of the salt fields have ceased, some small-scale operations still occur on the site.
The salt fields are regulated by the Department of the Premier and Cabinet (DPC) under the Mining Act 1971. This regulation includes a requirement for a program for environment protection and rehabilitation (PEPR) which includes taking steps to manage dust.
Buckland Dry Creek Pty Ltd is also licensed by the EPA under the Environment Protection Act 1993, and is focused on managing discharges of saline water.
Community members concerned about dust or odour can contact the Mineral Resources Division of the Department of Premier and Cabinet for further information.
