Chief Executive
Dr Jon Gorvett joined the EPA on 1 May 2023.
Dr Gorvett was previously Deputy Chief Executive of the Department of the Premier and Cabinet (DPC) from July 2021. He has had the responsibility of driving DPC’s policy engine room, leading Cabinet Office, Strategy and Policy, Office of Data Analytics and Intergovernmental and Diplomatic Relations. As Deputy CE he previously also had responsibility for Aboriginal Affairs and Reconciliation, Lot 14 and DPC’s Communities and Corporate Services group.
From 2017–2021 Dr Gorvett was Executive Director leading DPC’s intergovernmental relations, international relations and emergency management teams responding to the bushfires of 2019–20, the management of COVID-19 and, most recently, the River Murray flood response. Before joining DPC, he was Director, Climate Change at the Department for Environment, Water and Natural Resources.
Dr Gorvett also spent 10 years in the UK Government, working in environment, housing, local government and climate change roles. He was the UK’s lead negotiator with the EU on climate change from 2013 to 2016, negotiating legislation and regulations including the market rules governing the operation of the EU’s Emissions Trading System and the technical regulation of CO2 emissions performance standards for vehicles.
Dr Gorvett has a PhD, Masters and Bachelors degrees from the University of Nottingham.
